A question which is often asked surrounds what service is provided by the different disciplines which are involved in mental health. Psychiatrists and General Practitioners will typically diagnose a patient's symptom and prescribe medication if necessary.

They may then refer the patient on to a specialist practitioner for further therapy e.g. a talking based therapy. Patients may, however, choose to attend a specialist practitioner independently.

Psychological talking therapies, including counselling, CBT, and certain forms of psychotherapy, typically, teach the patient new strategies to cope with their symptom.
Psychoanalytic based psychotherapy, as provided by Sonas Counselling Service, is unique in that employs a methodology to identify and treat underlying stress and anxiety.

These causal factors, when present, will typically have occurred in the patients past; medication or new coping strategies will not address this issue.

“I believe it is important for people to create a healthy mental environment in which to accomplish their daily tasks.” Darren L. Johnson
